How Aol Spends Its Money: Episode 40,000 ? The Great Scratch Card Hoax

One of the great things about working for Aol is the company's dedication to making its 5,860 5000 remaining employees happy and motivated. Only this morning, for example, a package arrived at TCHQ packed full of materials promoting Aol's "4th Canvas Collection Unveiling" -- an initiative where upcoming artists are commissioned to produce art to promote the Aol "brand". Sounds awesome, right? Right. But it gets better: also included in the package were scratch cards, allowing we loyal Aol foot-soldiers the chance to (quote) "WIN A LIMITED EDITION SIGNED ARTIST PRINT FROM THE NEW COLLECTION!" Surely even a cynic like me could get on board with that, right? RIGHT! I grabbed my Aol hat, raced to a browser window and... well... video below...

Flickr adds lightbox viewer for iPad surfers

Flickr on iPad
Flickr has announced that visitors who browse the site using an iPad can now view photos using a lightbox-style viewer. On any photo page, simply tap the picture you'd like to view and the background will darken and the higher-resolution image will load in the foreground.

It's a subtle change, but one which definitely makes browsing Flickr on an iPad a more enjoyable (and efficient) experience. As our editor in chief put it, "This is pretty sick."

Squizits Are Like Crack for Your Fidgeting Fingers

Squizits are completely pointless. And that’s the whole point. Billed as a kit to give kids with ADHD something to do with their constantly fidgeting hands, the Squizits is equally suited to calming stressed-out adults.
If you have ever picked up an object from your desk and spent the next half hour twiddling it between your [...]

Windows Phone 7 "NoDo" update now available, adds copy/paste and more

windows phone 7 nodo update
The much-anticipated and repeatedly delayed Windows Phone 7 "NoDo" update has finally been released by Microsoft. A number of ROMs for various devices had already been leaked to the Internet, so it's thought that Microsoft may have stepped in to stem the tide of unofficial updating.

So what all does NoDo bring to WP7 phones? First and foremost, copy and paste functionality has been added -- but there are plenty of other welcome enhancements. Another big change is the improved Marketplace search, which now limits results based on the category you're currently browsing (like apps, games, or music).

Application startup times have been reduced, the Outlook app has received some minor tweaks, and switching camera mode from photo to video is now more trouble-free. Bluetooth headset audio has been improved, as has the process of syncing of Facebook account data.

Your WP7 phone should notify if the update is available, but you can also force a check in the Zune desktop app or the Windows Phone 7 Connector for Mac.

Super Pong Table serves up four-way retro play, whole lot of awesome (video)

Sure it's just sliding sticks and bouncing balls, but anyone who grew up playing Atari can tell you that Pong rules. Unfortunately, its earliest incarnation only supported enough 2D fun for two, which is why our eyes just about popped out of our heads when we saw this. The folks over at Instructables are showing off another awesome retro gaming project that makes everyone's favorite game a party pleaser -- it's also a pretty good fix for an old coffee table. The Super Pong Table allows for up to four players and fives balls per game, and enlists 900 LEDs and four Atari paddle controllers to make the thing work. Each player controls his or her own stick and gains or loses a point depending on whether they hit or miss a ball -- the first player to reach 20 points gets their very own "YOU WIN" light up display. Looks like we just found something to do with our weekend. You can check out a video of the table in action after the break or follow the source link for instructions on making your own.
